Passing the Baton: Rekindle Manchester’s Next Generation of youth pioneers

At Rekindle Manchester, we’re on the cusp of welcoming our second generation of Youth Pioneers. Since launching the call-out just over a month ago, we’ve been blown away by the level of interest and energy from young people keen to help shape Rekindle’s future.
From Pioneer to Mentor
One of our original Pioneers and current Community and Corporate Partnerships Lead, Cara, is spearheading this recruitment drive. Keen to pass the baton and ensure that Rekindle remains truly youth-led, she is taking the lead on interviewing and inducting the young people who will soon help to shape Rekindle Manchester’s strategic vision and plans for the future.
Young Voices, Real Impact
Our Rekindle Youth Pioneers (aged between 16-24) help us to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of young people and the wider community by sharing their experiences of what it’s like to be a young person today, working with each other and Rekindle staff to co-design the sessions and activities that we offer for young people.
Receiving mentorship and guidance from some of the original Pioneers, formed back in 2019, the eight selected young people will also collaborate with their London-based counterparts to build on what’s come before to shape the next chapter of Rekindle’s youth-led work.
In a world that’s constantly shifting – with rapid advances in technology, global media saturation and complex international issues – growing up today brings unique challenges. At Rekindle, we believe young people’s perspectives matter. That’s why we create space not just for them to be heard, but to take action – co-designing responses and shaping the change they want to see.
What’s Next?
By the end of the month, our second generation of Manchester Youth Pioneers will have been recruited and will have had their first session together. We are looking forward to getting to know them and seeing what they achieve over the next few months – watch this space!
