Aaron Hipgrave Lewis-Youth Voice In Education

Aaron is a musician, guitar teacher, and producer who became involved in youth voice research in 2021 through Lancashire Music Hub’s Amplify project. Passionate about ensuring young people’s perspectives shape education, he has worked on youth consultation sessions at Lancashire County Hall and the Music for Youth festival in Birmingham.

Aaron’s research explores how well schools listen to and act on student voices. His project examines:

  • Whether young people feel heard and valued in decision-making.
  • Examples of best practice in youth voice facilitation.
  • How schools can better embed student perspectives in their policies and culture.

Findings will be compiled into a comprehensive journal summarising reflections on Youth Voice today, to be shared at a national event in Summer 2025.

How You Can Get Involved

Aaron is looking for:

  • Students and educators willing to share their experiences of youth voice in schools.
  • Participants for a Play Verto survey (under 10 minutes).
  • Contributors for in-person or online focus groups (1-2 hours).
  • Interviewees for one-to-one discussions on youth voice facilitation.

All responses will be anonymous and contribute to wider research on how schools can improve youth representation.
