Finty Royle- Belonging in Education

Finty is a medical student from the North West who found school challenging. Driven by a belief that young people can shape a more inclusive education system, she is exploring how to foster belonging in schools so that every student feels valued and understood.

Finty’s research is about belonging—how young people experience it in education and what can be done to strengthen it. She aims to explore:

  • How the feeling of belonging impacts students’ confidence and engagement.
  • Why the competitive and rigid nature of education leaves some students unseen or isolated.
  • How schools can actively nurture a culture of inclusion and connection.

Her project will bring together young people and educators to co-create a toolkit that will rethink how schools approach belonging.

How You Can Get Involved

Finty is looking for:

  • Young people and school staff who want to share their experiences.
  • Participants to join 4 x 2-hour online sessions exploring strategies to foster belonging in schools.
  • Contributors to help shape a toolkit that will be shared nationally to spark change.

This project is fully collaborative, ensuring all voices hold equal weight. Please share any thoughts you may have on the project!
