Voices Of South London – A Youth-Led Film

We are extremely proud to present the final work created by the young people who took part in Voices of South London.

This film brings together weeks of creativity, collaboration and courage. Shaped entirely by the young people themselves, it captures how South London looks and feels through their eyes – its energy, contradictions, humour and heart.

Young People on the Voices of South London Project

Voices of South London was a celebration of young people, creativity and place.

Over 10 weeks, young people aged 11–14 from Lambeth and Southwark came together to tell their own stories in their own words, sounds and images. What began as a creative project became something deeper: a shared space for confidence, expression and connection, rooted firmly in South London.

This project centred young people as storytellers. It trusted their perspectives, honoured their experiences, and made space for voices that are too often talked about, rather than listened to.

What Happened

Across weekly sessions at Rekindle London, young people:

    • Delved into South London culture and the root of its stereotypes
    • Investigated issues affecting South London, including gentrification and housing insecurity
    • Learned filmmaking, editing and storytelling skills – and made them their own
    • Experimented with sound, lyrics and music as part of the storytelling process
    • Worked collaboratively, shaping the direction and feel of the final film
    • Built confidence, communication and trust within a creative, youth-led space

The project concluded with a community screening in December at Rekindle London, where our amazing young people shared their work with family, friends and supporters – a proud moment that marked just how far they have come.

But this film is not an ending. It’s a starting point.

Voices of South London has opened the door to future work with these young people – and to many more voices still to come.

We’re excited about what’s ahead. Our next project ‘Everyone Deserves a Plate‘ –  tackling food insecurity in South London through cooking, campaigning, design and event planning – will start in March.
