Nello James was a radical community organiser, educator, and activist whose legacy in Moss Side and beyond continues to inspire. With support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Rekindle is leading the Rekindling Nello James project to document and share his story and legacy with communities today.
Across twelve months, the project will unfold through:
Community storytelling events gathering memories, artefacts, and lived experiences.
Radical Readers – a reading group exploring Nello’s influence and the ideas he stood for.
Creative commissions from local artists, poets, and young people.
Blogs, films and events to ensure his work continues to inspire new generations.
All activity and updates are hosted on a dedicated project microsite, where you can find information on upcoming events, opportunities to get involved, and stories from the community.
